Active Release Techniques (ART): Spine Level 2

Spine Level 2 is eligible for 22.5 contact hours.

Chiropractors

License Renewal: While applications relating to credit hours for license renewal in selected states have been executed for these programs, it remains attendees’ responsibility to contact the state board(s) from whom they seek continuing education credits for purposes of ensuring said board(s) approve both venue and content as they relate to any seminar/course/lecture/webinar/online presentation (event). Neither a speaker’s or exhibitor’s presence at said event, nor product mention or display, shall in any way constitute Northeast College endorsement. Northeast College’s role is strictly limited to processing, submitting, and archiving program documents.

*Alabama, Idaho, Iowa, North Carolina, Oregon, South Dakota, Washington, and Wyoming do not require preapproval.
*Maine does not have Continuing Education requirements.
ART does not have preapproval from New York. A certificate of attendance will be provided to all attendees following the seminar.

Active Release Techniques is an AOTA Approved Provider of professional development. Course approval ID#9416. This in-person seminar is offered at 2.25 CEUs, advanced level, soft-tissue. The assignment of AOTA CEUs does not imply endorsement of specific course content, products, or clinical procedures by AOTA or indicate AOTA approval of a certification or other professional recognition.

• Differentiate between two muscles that are side by side in the spine when asked to perform palpation and an ART treatment protocol.


• Properly explain to the patient the active/passive motion required to shorten and lengthen a muscle from the anatomical position based upon the ART protocol selected for treatment.


• Properly assess a patient’s spine/neck/back condition using ART’s Diagnostic Algorithm.


• Appropriately select an ART protocol for a patient with neck pain.


• Appropriately select an ART protocol for a patient with back pain.


• Appropriately select an ART protocol for a patient with headaches.


• Appropriately select an ART protocol for a patient with TMJ.


• Properly select treatment protocols which help to reduce pain, improve ROM, and restore function for a patient/client to return to ADL, sport, or other desired activity outcome.

• Properly perform an appropriate spine protocol to treat a patient with neck pain.


• Properly perform an appropriate spine protocol to treat a patient with back pain.

• Appropriately select an ART protocol for a patient with decreased cervical spine range of motion.

• Properly perform an appropriate spine protocol to treat a patient with decreased cervical spine range of motion.

• Paraphrase Relative Motion and how it pertains to ART treatment.


• Interpret Single-loop Negative Feedback and how it pertains to ART treatment.


• Recite the four basic components of ART treatment protocols.


• Recognize common symptom patterns of spinal neuromuscular injuries and disorders.


• Summarize the cellular response to ARTR treatment on soft tissue structures.


• Compare between healthy and unhealthy tissue utilizing hands-on palpation techniques.


• Recite the physiological methodology of ART’s Diagnostic Algorithm.

Prerequisites:
Eligible healthcare professional license or a student enrolled in a program resulting in such license (Doctor of Chiropractic, Physical Therapist/Physical Therapy Assistant, Occupational Therapist/Occupational Therapy Assistant, Athletic Trainer/Therapist, Registered Nurse/Licensed Practical Nurse, Medical/Osteopathic Doctor, Physiotherapist, Massage Therapist, Acupuncturist, Podiatrist).

Certification in the following seminar (At a minimum. We encourage Full Body Level 1 certification):

Seminar Schedule
ART Seminars consist of 80% or more hands-on practice and training, with attendees receiving immediate feedback from instructors and other attendees.

Day 1, 2, & 3:

• 8:00 AM-12:00 PM: Protocol Review
• 1:00 PM-5:00 PM: Protocol Review

Day 4:

• 7:30 AM-12:00 PM: Testing

Seminar Completion:
All attendees must be present for the full instructional portion (22.5 contact hours) and pass both the written pre-credentialing exam and in-person practical exam to successfully complete the seminar.

Included with registration

• ARTMan: Our iPad and web-based application includes a digital version of our manual plus exclusive video demonstrations of the protocols. ARTMan can be linked with the Visible Body Suite App (separate purchase) for more in-depth study. ARTMan is exclusively available to active ART Certified Providers.
• Paper Manual: Optional paper manual. (Free for attendees registering as New Certification/Student. Available as an additional purchase for Recertification attendees.)

Appropriate attire:

• Most of our seminars consist of hands-on practice on attendees. Wear clothing which allows for ease of movement so that fellow attendees may easily palpate and practice protocols on you. Athletic attire, shorts, yoga pants, t-shirts, joggers, athletic polo shirts and tops are most appropriate.

Testing:

• Recertification attendees will test on Friday and Saturday during the seminar on six protocols at a time determined by the instructor. With rare exceptions, all recertification testing will be completed by 5:00 PM on Saturday.
• New Certification attendees (including Students) will test on six protocols on Sunday morning beginning at 7:30 AM. Each test will take no more than 15 minutes. Attendees should plan to arrive no less than 15 minutes before their scheduled practical test and may leave as soon as they complete their exam. (Testing may end as late as 12:00 PM. Please plan accordingly).

Miscellaneous:

• Portable tables: At most seminars outside of Colorado Springs, we ask that attendees bring a portable table, if possible. As a token of our appreciation, attendees that bring a table will receive a $50 credit toward a future seminar and be entered into a drawing for $500 off their next seminar. Look for more information in our post-registration emails.
